Keep to a traditional visit with reindeer and elves or opt for something a little more magical – think steam train rides, twinkling light trails, and festive markets. The Royal Mint is offering an immersive experience, where your kids can wander through Santa&#8217;s workshop hosted by his elves, visit his Grotto (and come out one cuddly toy better off), watch a show, post a letter through the magic post box, and for an extra £7.95, even strike a commemorative coin. The price for family of four is £55-60, but it sounds like it&#8217;s worth every penny.</p>

<p>Fancy breakast with Santa and his elves? Thankfully he has more than carrots up his sleeve at this Cardiff garden centre, offering a full English complete with pigs in blankets, elf&#8217;s benedict, and a reindeer pancake stack with warm cranberry hot honey. Then, he&#8217;ll read your kids a festive North Pole story, with each child receiving a special gift to take home. </p>

<p>It isn’t a Welsh Christmas without a trip to The Brecon Mountain Railway, so be quick to book your tickets, as they’re always a sell-out. Your family will meet Santa and his jolly elves at Pontsticill Station before journeying for around an hour and a half to meet the big FC, with festive treats en route and scenic views throughout.&nbsp;The whole event is two hours &#8211; just enough time to enthral little ones.</p>

<p>The Big Pit National Coal Museum&#8217;s Storytime with Santa is back for another year, but only for two days so get booking!  Each child will receive a gift from Father Christmas, and have the opportunity to get creative with Christmas crafts. Only one non-participating adult is permitted per child due to the cosy cottage being a tight squeeze so you&#8217;ll have to fight it out with your partner on who take the coveted Santa pic.</p>

<p>Perhaps the most magical of all festive visits, Christmas at Reindeer Lodge, just 20 minutes from Wrexham and Chester on the North Wales border, takes families through a magical portal directly into Santa’s secret world. There, visitors are invited to Elfhood training to become Guardians of Elven before learning how reindeers fly, elves make toys, and the way that Christmas magic works. All of this, plus a magical woodland and enchanted lake, elf villages, stage shows, crafts, festive food and Santa in his grotto. Quite a few dates have already sold out so if you&#8217;re up that way, get booking. </p>

<p>All aboard a train to an underground Victorian slate mine, where Santa and his team await. Returning for its fifth year, this fun, quirky Zipmas show includes invites families to navigate the light maze, pop into the elves&#8217; toy workshop, and meet  Father Christmas as he presents children with a slate bauble gift. Back above ground your children can decorate their bauble, which will hang on your tree with pride (or, you know, quietly make its way to the back). Your kids have to be able to walk – no carrying or prams due to the mine &#8211; and there&#8217;s free parking complimentary mince pies, hot chocolate and mulled wine.  </p>

<p>This one&#8217;s just for overnight guests at Bluestone in Pembrokeshire, so you may want to organise yourself a little holiday! Santa’s Lodge is tucked amongst the trees and inside you’ll find traditional decorations, magical helpers, and twinkling lights and Santa himself. The experience will only take around 15 mins or so, but while you&#8217;re staying there&#8217;s also the Snow Storm at the Serendome, Reindeer Light Show and Jingle Jive. </p>

<p>Another train ride to Santa’s grotto (he has a lot of them in Wales, doesn&#8217;t he?!), the Gwili Railway operates on weekends in Camarthen, from the new station at Abergwili Junction. This one&#8217;s all about the journey, sitting in 1950s carriages, and taking in the stunning countryside views before arriving on Santa&#8217;s doorstep. All children under 12 will get a gift from Santa, and everybody is invited for photos except your dogs who need to be left at home.</p>

<p>Gower Fresh Christmas Trees is home to over 500,000 Christmas trees on the Gower Peninsula, and is Wales&#8217; largest Christmas tree farm but if you want to combine your tree-selecting with Santa-grotto-ing, you&#8217;re in the right place. There are over 34 reindeers (including six babies) to feed here, along with a Winter Wonderland with the all important grotto meet-and-greet.  </p>
