<p>Baking bread doesn&#8217;t have to be a minefield. In fact, the basics of bread are pretty easy to understand if you have a great teacher. Enter, Warren Carr. The genius behind Highs &amp; Loaves, A self-taught baker, inspired by his years living in Germany and Austria, he offers a range of artisan breadmaking classes for beginners throughout the year, along with some more specialised workshops (think croissants and bagels). Each class holds a maximum of four people, and you&#8217;ll be served lunch with a glass of wine. Cheers! </p>

<p>Angela Gray has quite the CV. Once a private chef travelling the world (Andrew Lloyd Webber was a client), she&#8217;s also been a restauranteur, presenter of BBC Wales show <em>Hot Stuff</em>, a radio presenter and food consultant, and most recently Cookery School owner at  Llanerch Vineyard since 2010. After over a decade of success in the Pontyclun hotel, Angela has moved to Cardiff, continuing to offer a wide variety of classes including Thai, Italian, Christmas make ahead workshops, and roasting meats.</p>

<p>At Astrid’s French boulangerie, everything is handcrafted on site, using time-honoured methods and the finest ingredients (and yes, she&#8217;s French!). Astrid&#8217;s workshops officially launched in 2023, with each class designed to teach you the secrets behind French classics, so you can recreate a little taste of Paris in your own home. </p>

<p>The cookery courses at this lovely Carmarthen cafe and cookery school range from relaxed day masterclasses packed with easy, everyday recipes to hands-on, smaller group workshops and even children&#8217;s cookery courses. If the whole family could do with learning a thing or two, bring together your favourite people (up to six of them), for up to three hours of cooking fun, and perhaps a little mayhem.</p>

<p>Rachel, the power behind The Abergavveny Baker, was a GP due to take on partnership in 2015, when she realised that the stress that came with medicine didn’t gel well with her zest for life. She handed in her resignation, started offering bread-making classes in her home kitchen, and soon after won Best Cookery School in the Welsh Food Awards in 2018. These days, Rachel operates out of a purpose-built cookery school above the Black Lion Pub, with more classes than ever on offer. The Abergavenny Baker offers a class for everyone, from Saturday sourdough sessions and Christmas breads, to Nordic baking and even Vietnamese street food.</p>

<p>Liz Wilson provides the heart, mind and hands behind Ma Baker, with classes taught in her new bakery space in Overton on Dee in North East Wales. Wilson clearly knows what she&#8217;s doing &#8211; in 2014, she was runner up at the World Bread Awards in the Home Baker category! Ma Baker offers day workshops in how to set up your own micro bakery, artisan and Italian breads, and lots more.</p>
